WOB-AL Annual Conference 2025: The governance event no board can afford to miss In just over two months, Albania’s governance community will
As the world around us accelerates in complexity, disruption, and uncertainty, leadership is no longer defined solely by one’s ability to execute strategy. It is defined by the capacity to remain anchored – to lead not just through knowledge, but through conviction. This was the central theme that emerged in our recent Fireside Chat: Leading Through Transformation, featuring distinguished global executive Olga Loskutova in conversation with Albana Vrioni, Founder of Women on Boards Albania (WOB-AL).
Held before a carefully curated audience of board members, aspiring directors, and C-level leaders, the conversation offered not only insight, but introspection – a rare invitation to pause and reflect on what it truly means to lead today.
Throughout her expansive career across Nestlé, SABMiller, Henkel, and now as Deputy CEO of GDEV, Olga has led transformative efforts in some of the world’s most dynamic environments. Her message was clear: transformation is no longer a defined phase – it is the permanent state of the modern enterprise. And in this reality, clarity of purpose and inner strength have become strategic assets.
“People on boards do not have all the information - but they are expected to lead opinions and shape outcomes.”
“Board readiness is not a role - it is a muscle you build over time.”
Albana’s reflections invited participants to consider their own journeys not as linear progressions, but as layered, values-driven evolutions. The boardroom is no longer a destination; it is a space that demands both ethical maturity and emotional agility.
Both speakers addressed the nuanced leadership experiences of women in senior roles, highlighting the additional layers of perception, expectation, and judgment that women navigate at the highest levels. Striking the balance between competence and likeability remains one of the silent tests of female leadership, particularly in board environments.
And yet, the conversation was not about barriers. It was about possibility. It was a call to claim space, to cultivate influence, and to lead transformation from the inside out.
“Women are often more adept at building connections and navigating complexity but we also see the world differently.”
One of the most evocative moments came when Albana noted:
“Sometimes I see business as a beautiful painting — where each of us adds our own brushstroke.”
Leadership, then, is not the act of solitary mastery, but one of co-creation, intentionality, and presence. Whether driving technological reinvention, governing in times of crisis, or navigating the personal terrain of imposter syndrome, the strength of a leader today is not in knowing all the answers – but in holding the space for change to unfold meaningfully.
The Fireside Chat is just one of many touchpoints in WOB-AL’s growing platform of high-level engagement, learning, and influence-building for current and future board leaders.
